You brush twice a day. You floss (sometimes). But your teeth still feel sensitive, look yellowed, or hurt. The culprit might be everyday habits you don't think twice about.
1. Brushing too hard
Aggressive brushing wears down enamel and causes gum recession. Use a soft-bristled brush and gentle circular motions. The brush should glide, not scrub.
2. Chewing ice
Ice fractures enamel and can crack fillings. If you crave ice, you may have an iron deficiency — get a blood test.
3. Using teeth as tools
Opening packets, holding pins, biting nails — these chip and crack teeth. Use scissors instead!
4. Frequent acidic drinks
Soda, lemon water, sports drinks erode enamel. Drink with a straw and rinse with plain water after.
5. Skipping the 6-month checkup
By the time you feel tooth pain, the problem is usually advanced. Routine cleaning catches issues early — and saves you money.
