"Root canal" is one of the scariest phrases in dentistry. But ask anyone who's had one in the last 10 years — most will tell you it was easier than expected.
What actually happens
A root canal removes infected tissue (pulp) from inside your tooth, cleans the canal, and seals it. The procedure relieves pain — it doesn't cause it.
Why it's pain-free now
- Better anesthesia — you feel pressure, not pain
- Rotary endodontics — single visit instead of multiple
- Magnification — precise work, less tissue trauma
Recovery
Most patients return to work the same day. Mild soreness for 2–3 days max — paracetamol handles it.
If you've been putting off a root canal because of fear: don't. Untreated infection can spread, and the longer you wait, the harder it gets to save the tooth.
